Most Preserved and Active among the Old Temples of this Temple city of Odisha, Parsurameswar Temple has its own impact on the Pilgrims as well as Tourists. Built in 7th Cent. A.D this Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. Like in other Shiv Temples in India you will find Images of Parvati, Ganesh and Kartika in three sides of this Temple. It belongs to the earliest group of temples in Odisha (Kalingan Style of Temple Architecture) and thus having Two Structures in Total i.e Nata Mandap and the Sanctum Sanctorium. Nata Mandap having a flat Roof is the Proof that this Temple belongs to the earliest time as in the later Group of Temples ( Built after 9th Cent. A.D ) You will find the Nata Mandap being designed as a Temple itself. Beautiful Motifs of Nandi and Bhrungi, Dancers, Lakulisa , Godess Durga are found here. Most important point is , You will find images of Saptamatrikas and Shahasralingams here. Made of Sand stone ( was found locally ) this Temple is Considered to be one of the best place for conducting " Rudravisheka " ( Special ritual for Lord Shiva ). To your great Surprise you will find here image of Lord Ganesh ( son of lord shiva ) watching the marriage ceremony of his Praents ( Shiva and Parvati ).
