Jirang Monastery is a hidden gem of Odisha, established in 2010. It is located at Jeerango, Gajapati district of Odisha. It was inaugurated by his holiness himself, Dalai Lama.

This place is also popularly known as the Little Tibet of Odisha.

This place has a history. After the Chinese invasion in 1959, Tibetans were sent to various parts of the world out of which Jiranga is one of them. Jiranga is also popularly known as Chandragiri.

The Tibetans here also call this monastery Phuntsokiling, which means happiness and Joy. looking at the people there, I was totally convinced that this is one true abode of happiness and joy. People here are so charming and peace-loving.

Another fun fact about this place is that It is the largest monastery in Eastern India. This is something we Odias are really proud of.

There is a canteen in the monastery where they serve snacks. I had tried momos there and I tell you, they were few of the good momos I have ever eaten. You should taste the momos here, definitely!

The monastery is closed from 12:00pm - 1:00pm. It is the lunch hour of students there.

Prayer is held twice a day, 5:30 am and 4pm. The sad news is, tourists were not allowed when I went for the visit. If you get a chance, the monastery prayers are a must-try experience.

Near the monastery, there is Jirang stupa. There are food stalls outside the stupa where you can enjoy some snacks as well.
