Road trip to Puri Chandrabhaga can be your favorite Next Door getaway

Amidst a serious pandemic lockdown, back at home, I am creating my travel wish list.

Now it feels like ages being at home....

It feels like ages to have witnessed a sunset standing on seashore or from the top of a mountain....

I am so selfishly desperate to move out on a road trip! ... Damn!

How about a Road trip to "Puri- Chandrabhaga" after the Lockdown is over??

Excited! Deal!

I am a resident of Bhubaneswar, and my next-door getaway is PURI. A trip to Puri is always a nice & happening weekend affair. I miss Puri, especially the white sand beaches at chandrabhaga. I miss those aimless scooty rides on the long green marine drive.

Aren't you missing them too..?

For anyone who lands in Bhubaneswar via flight or train; Puri is just a 60 min drive. So Puri can be one beautiful weekend escape not only for me, but for anyone who has good travel connectivity with Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

At Puri, you get hotels in all price ranges with a checkout time of 8am in the morning. You get all kinds of food to satisfy tourists from different cultures.

Puri City is a typical tourist destination, with Lord Jagannath temple, a long crowded beach line, hotels near, far spread everywhere. Its pretty populated.


However, i am fond of other half of Puri which connects the marine drive. One ride on a marine drive is so fulfilling. It's a refreshingly long ride, as long as 20kms.


I miss this road! Its our marine drive which cruises at the bank of the long coastline of bay of bengal. It's way different from a Mumbai- marine drive. The marine drive is green and dramatic. Make sure you do not drive to chase. Speed kills! Drive to feel and connect to the nature around.

Half of the Marine drive comes under Balukhand sanctuary zone. Who knows, you might get lucky to see some deers on the way.

The Beaches along a Marine drive are my favorites. They are pretty white, virgin & clean. They are not crowded.

Chandrabhaga Beach is no lesser than Miami Beach.

There is a folklore behind the pristine beauty of Chandrabhaga beach. Well it goes like this from wikipedia.....

According to a mythological reference, Chandrabhaga, the daughter of a sage, caught the attraction of the Sun God by her magical charm. The God fell in love, came down with a proposal to marry, to which Chandrabhaga denied. Maddened by romantic pangs, the God chased Chandrabhaga. She got frightened & jumped into the river and killed herself, thus succeeding in protecting her chastity. It's believed, that even today, Sun God visits this place everyday in her memory. Chandrabhaga beach is also known as the place of the rising sun.


Marine drive also takes you through some amazing beach resorts like the Lotus resorts, The Rangers, The sand dunes etc. You can book and stay there as well.


How about a night on a cottage like this? Amazing isn't it !

This is my kind of getaway. I love to wake up to the sea, the sands, my half read novel, to some french toasts & water melon juice, to the music of the waves, to some sunbath and finally to a glorious sun set.

This used to be my weekend affair that i miss amidst a serious pandemic lock down and social distancing.

Before i conclude, let me tell you about my 2 favorite food joint at Puri. These 2 places are nice, clean, relaxing. They serve some amazing food.

HoneyBee is a bakers cafe. They serve you the best Pizza and pancakes and sandwiches. Pink House serves you the best sea food dishes.
